New York City during the American Revolution. Population ~25,000 in a compact city at Manhattan’s southern tip. The Great Fire of September 21, 1776 destroyed 25-30% of the city. British occupation from September 1776 to November 1783. Key events include the Battle of Brooklyn, Washington’s retreat, and the eventual British evacuation.
