Summary
Manhattan as encountered by Henry Hudson and the crew of the Halve Maen. The island was home to the Lenape people and contained an extraordinary diversity of ecological habitats — over 55 distinct plant communities across hills, streams, ponds, marshes, and forests. The Welikia/Mannahatta Project reconstructed this landscape in detail.
